About…

Hello. I’m John Nelson - environmental designer, architect. I currently work as a senior concept designer at Starbucks in New York City where I focus on experience strategy, design innovation and proof-of-concept execution.

I studied architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans where I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. While practicing architecture, I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredibly innovative designers - Mass Design Group, Terreform One, Perkins+Will and Gould Evans - from whom I’ve gained a wealth of varied experience.

In my search to investigate deeper and be involved in a more vertically integrated design process, I shifted my focus from architectural practice to experience strategy and concept design. My current role allows this level of investigation with an outsized level of exposure.

My design ethos (ever evolving) is composed of a few principles: design with empathy, design for function, and design for joy.
